For alts and private credit firms
Distribution recruiting for alternatives and private credit
Selling interval funds, private credit and other alternatives to RIAs takes a different kind of wholesaler. I help alts firms find the people who can actually do it.
Why alts distribution is its own search
An RIA putting a private credit fund or an interval fund on its platform asks harder questions than it does for a mutual fund. Liquidity terms, valuation, fees, how the product fits next to the rest of the portfolio, and how to explain it to clients. The wholesaler has to be ready for that conversation, often with a research team or an investment committee, not just one advisor.
Plenty of strong traditional wholesalers can make that jump. Some can't, and some don't want to. Part of my job is knowing the difference before you meet them.
What we figure out up front
- The vehicle: interval fund, tender-offer fund, non-traded BDC or REIT, or private fund.
- Who you are selling to: large RIAs with research teams, smaller firms, or both.
- Whether you need someone who has already sold alts, or a proven RIA wholesaler you can train.
- How the role works with your platform team, your product specialists and your due diligence process.
How the search runs
We talk about the seat, the territory and the product. I tell you straight if it will be a hard sell. We sign a simple agreement. Then I call the people who fit, not the ones reading job posts, and you meet a short slate. I stay in it until they're in the seat.
What makes an alts wholesaler good
The best ones I talk to can explain a fund's liquidity terms simply and honestly, without overselling. They're comfortable in front of a research team, they understand how an RIA's due diligence works, and they know which advisors will actually use the product with clients. They also know when to bring in a product specialist instead of winging it.
They tend to be patient. Alts sales often take longer, and a wholesaler who needs a quick win every week may struggle. When I screen for these seats, I spend as much time on how someone sells as on what he's sold, because that tells you more about whether he'll work in your firm.
The terms
Replacement Guarantee. If the hire leaves or is let go within 90 days (6 months for leadership roles), I run the search again free.
Exclusivity. 90 days on the search.
Your people. I won't recruit from my clients.
Questions I get
Do you only recruit for alternatives firms?
No. I recruit for boutique asset managers, ETF issuers, interval-fund and alts shops, and SMA firms under 300 people. Alts is one part of that.
Can a traditional wholesaler move into alts?
Often, yes. I'll tell you honestly which candidates I think can make that move and which can't.
Which roles do you fill for alts firms?
External wholesalers, Regional Directors, RIA consultants and the distribution leaders who run them.
